Nevada Backflow Tester / Cross Connection Courses

40-Hour Certification Course Schedule ($750)

We are currently offering private courses only, resuming open enrollment courses in October 2022. For CA, NV, and AZ, the minimum students for a private course is only 5 students ( 10 in most other areas ), so if you have a group of 5, or can pay for the minimum 5, we can come to your location and teach only your students. We are looking for hosts in most areas, also, and we offer two free students in exchange for hosting a course.

What does the Kruger’s Backflow Tester Diploma mean ?

We have a 40-hour USC program, which includes a pass / fail practical and written examination. Once you pass our course, you receive a tester’s certification diploma. This may be accepted on its own in some applications, or used as a pre-requisite to a third party exam (AWWA, ABPA, ASSE, etc). The program includes lecture and practice on testing, repair, and design application of all four types of backflow preventers, and we cover the USC 10th Edition Testing Procedures with all listed diagnostic failures, in accordance with the applicable programs. NOTE - No 3rd party exam is hosted after the course, if these are required, you can schedule with an open enrollment exam or even host your own exam at your convenience !

What is the next step after taking the Backflow Tester’s Exam ?

The Kruger's Training Academy Diploma can certify a technician to test preventers in maintenance situations ( such as irrigation or hydronic make up water ). To test on new construction and the annual tests on preventers that tie direct to the water purveyor, the appropriate third party exam may be required. More info on how to register and prepare for the ABPA or AWWA third party exams is listed on our USC Test Prep page - with links to their schedules and free resources to help you study.

Approvals and Registrations

Our 40-hour course is based on the USC (University of Southern California) textbook and course materials. We have submitted our course and received approval for our training with the major third party exam providers ( AWWA and ABPA ) and most other entities that may require proof of training. If you have a specific question about a specific area, feel free to reach out via phone or email and we can follow up to make sure the course is registered. Most, if not all, certification exams require formal training and / or experience in order to apply, which our 40-hour course is considered the prerequisite training for taking their exams.

Check out more info on how to register and prepare for the ABPA, AWWA, or similar exams on our USC Test Prep page - with links to their schedules and free resources to help you study.

How do I Become a Backflow Assembly Tester in Nevada?

There is no state level agency that regulates backflow testing in Nevada, so each water purveyor, water district, or other jurisdiction, makes their own rules. The City of Las Vegas accepts AWWA or ABPA, as well as most areas associated with a "health district" -> more info if you follow up with environmentalhealth@snhd.org -  After contacting multiple jurisdictions, all of them contacted accept the AWWA or ABPA certifications, many likely accept our diploma on its own as well.

Which Backflow Preventer Testing Procedures Should I Use?

The AWWA and APBA exams use the USC testing procedures,

On our YouTube Channel, we created a series of videos where we test the four types of preventers using both types of procedures if you wanted to check out the differences:

Reduced Pressure Principle (RPZ) - USC 2-Valve Procedures

Double Check Valve Assembly (DCV) - USC Procedures

Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB) - USC Procedures

Spill Resistant Vacuum Breaker (SVB) - USC Procedures
